February 2017

So, as this week draws to a close, a little throwback to what happened last week, two old vine parcels of some superb old vine bosstok #stellenbosch #steen - or as some oft call it bush vine Chenin blanc. The fruit on the right comes from the stalwart vines planted in the early 80's close to False Bay on a combination of ferricrete 'n decompsed granitic soils which we've been working with since 2011 & which gave rise to our Hoeksteen bottling. The little golden green grenades on the right come from a small parcel of wizened old bush vines rooted in decompsed granite soils in the Bottelary and a first, but not last, harvest for us. Both batches were allowed a period of skin contact prior to a gentle pressing, with only free-run juice racked off with a portion of fine lees for an extended cold ferment. These parcels, as well as a very special dry land bush vine parcel, will form a part of our #HoekSteen Stellenbosch Steen & Vagabod white blend. #fledgewine #cheninblanc #stellenbosch #granite #ferricrete #bushvines #bosstok #handcraftedwine #vintage2017
